Outrage at plan to scrap police child abuse units
THERE has been further condemnation of the police plan to dismantle family violence, child abuse and sexual offences units countrywide. Reacting to a media reports yesterday about the closure, Child Welfare SA acting executive director Lynette Schreuder said: If these allegations are correct, this will have a negative impact on the already weak, under-resourced, fragmented and unco-ordinated child protection system in our country. She said these units played an important role in the protection of children and in ensuring that the rights of children who were unfortunate victims of abuse were upheld. Childline Eastern Cape director Anni Rossouw also condemned the closure. It is very bad because we have a very good relationship with that unit.
