Boyfriend guilty of child abuse death

TODAY: (Updated 5:05 p.m.) Ryan Miller was found guilty this afternoon of murdering 17-month-old Aalliyah Andrews Nov. 7 while baby-sitting at their East Moline apartment. After deliberating for more than 10 hours Thursday night and Friday, a Rock Island County jury returned the guilty verdict for first-degree murder around 3:15 p.m.As the jury was polled Aalliyah’s mother, Ashley Andrews, bobbed nervously on a courthouse bench while wiping tears from her face. Pat Lawless, a victim’s advocate for the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s office, sat behind Andrews and rubbed her shoulders. Andrews was sitting next to Miller’s mother.While being led out of the courtroom, Miller, who was Andrews’ boyfriend, looked back toward her and his family, but his view was blocked by Rock Island County Sheriff’s deputies.Miller will be sentenced Nov.
